This region of
Western Australia, with more than 75 kilometers of attractive
and accessible coastline, is blessed with numerous natural
features of beauty, including the Peel Inlet, Harvey Estuary and
associated waterways, extensive forestry areas and the Murray
River Valley. It incorporates the City of Mandurah and the
Shires of Boddington, Murray, Serpentine-Jarrahdale, Waroona and
Harvey.
Tourism is fast becoming a driving economy, and being less than
an hour's drive from Perth City helps make this region a popular
tourist destination.
The city of Mandurah just 70 km. south of Perth, with its luxury
holiday and retirement homes, is the marine playground of
Western Australia. Mandurah is also the gateway to the many
other attractions of the hinterland including Pinjarra, home of
the Hotham Valley Tourist Railway which offers scenic Steam
Train excursions throughout the State. Further south is the
Shire of Harvey – a country town and a rural community. The
unique combination of rural elements make this Shire very
popular for city folk because of the obvious park-like
characteristics of the land.
You will certainly discover a collection of surprising treasures
when you tour this region!
